I am bummed on three topics:
One, this weather, will this snow, sleet, and cold ever go away?
Two, Wil Wheaton, my favorite actor, blogger, writer, is supporting Barack Obama. Just not my choice, so it hurts my feelers...
Three, I am sick of going to Jenelle and Jason's blog and not seeing any new posts. That is one website I visit daily, right along with KCCI.com. I have to have my fix and I have read through the archives already. So Meyer's, if one of you happens to read this...PLEASE POST SOMETHING. I know you must have something on your minds!
Enough for now, Luv J.

Ice 07
Here are a few pictures of the "Ice Crisis of '07" as the news is calling it. Guess it is true. I should have taken video of the first day so everyone could hear the erie creaking and snapping of the trees and the zapping of the powerlines.
As the wind pics up, the next few days might be worse. We just got power back last night, some are still without. They have said to plan ahead as it may go off again.
The trees truly upset me. I have always had a love for them. I need to get more pictures of my mom's yard, as she has lost quite a few after I took pictures on the 11th.
As the day went on, and we still didn't have power, we decided to drive around and look at all the sites. Some of God's creatures were still acting normal, chasing tail and what not!
It is day three and branches and trees are still falling. We were woke up at 4 A.M. with a branch falling onto our deck. My hubby worked is butt off yesterday trying to get most of the stuff picked up.I am keeping my fingers crossed that the wind dies down quickly!

Winter driving in Iowa.
All week I was watching the weather because a winter storm was on it's way from somewhere out west on a path to hit Iowa on Saturday December 1st.
All week, I was praying that the storm hit after I got home from work Saturday morning. Guess what? It didn't wait.
After talking about it Wednesday and Thursday, Friday night was here and KCCI (my fave news channel out of Des Moines) was saying it would hit southern Iowa "mid morning" . OK, mid morning to a group of people who work 6 p.m. to 6 a.m is about 3a.m. During my shifts lunch break, at 11:50 p.m. , we decided that mid morning was about 9 ish an thought we would have an easy trip home. I should add that my entire shift is made up of 9 people who commute at least 25 miles, excluding the 3 who we can hardly understand, and who cares if they have a hard time getting home or not right? JUST KIDDING. In all honesty those 3 live in town and always take the taxi. They ride white knuckled every time they get into the car with that guy, so they are used to sliding all over the road.
Any who, around 4 a.m. Mikey,as I call him, came by and said, "It's here!"
Tired as I am at four in the morning, I was like "What's here?" quite grouchy I might add.
Mikey "THE FREAKIN SLEET ya cranky **^&*^*^*&%*!"
"Oh, yeah, OH NO not already?"
So I grab one of the other dudes to walk out the closest dock door and check it out.
To this day, I don't ask other girls to go potty with me so don't ask why I needed a reinforcement to open the damn dock door.
Sure enough, there she was in all her icy glory, all over the trailers, stairs and parking lot. Another bad sign was that our Shag driver was going at a normal driving speed with chains on! Never a good sign, I can promise you that.
So, we, Mikey,Roach and I, go sneaking into the dock office to look at KCCI's "SUPER DOPPLER RADAR" on line. She was here and the worst was on it's way,we guessed by the time 6 rolled around,we would all be scrapping an inch of ice off our windshields. Unfortunately we were right.
Not only was it icy as hell, it was coming down so hard,it left like thousands of needles hitting my face as soon as I walked , scooted down the front steps of the building!
As I looked out and saw my whole shift, except for the 3 local boys, who I might add were gone in a nice warm taxi already)were scrapping and looked to me like chopping the damn ice from thier cars. Poor Landon, another dude on my shift, was needing a jump for the new-used Chevy Blazer he just got two weeks ago! Nothing against Chevy's, after all it is used, and it's a Chevy. But back to the ice...
I always park clear at the end of the parking lot because people like to door ding, and I don't mind the walk to the building. It's like my last few moments of freedom before I thank God for my job, take a deep breath and swipe my card, and open the door to my frozen head ache I have called a job for NINE years as of today actually!
To the point. Roach( his actual last name BTW) yells, "Hey Jamie, I'll drive you down to your car, parking lot is F'N slick, you'll be bustin your ass!"
He didn't have to ask me twice. So here I am with Roach thinking, how in the hell can I drive in this? I get nerved up just thinking about bad roads
Roach makes sure I get in to my car OK and then says he's going to help the guys with Landon's Blazer.
"OK then, thanks for the ride, be careful on the way home!"
"You too, but, do you think you should call your husband to come get you?" Roach knows how I am, I usually call in or leave early if bad weather is gonna hit.
"Nah, I think I'll be OK, Shawn and Mechelle will be right behind me!"
I could tell Roach was like..."Yeah, don't ya think ya better call your husband?" But he didn't ask again! If you knew Mechelle eighty miles an hour Hill and Shawn thirty-five in a seventy Ellis, you'd understand why Roach was concerned!
I started my car, turned up the defrost, put my gloves on and grabbed my ice scrapper. Slipping and sliding and not in a good way. I swear, it was the best workout I have had in a while. You know, trying to stay upright and chop ice all at the same time. Got er done thought and called Hubby.
"Hey, are ya up?"
"Yeah," Travis goes, " Do you want me to come get you? Pretty shitty out."
"Nah, I think I can make it. Plan on me being on the road at 6:20, OK?
"OK, are you sure you don't want me to come get you?"
" I'll take my time, how many people can be on the interstate at 6:30 in the morning?"
To be very honest, I was worried about the drive the entire night, and as I was chopping ice, I kept thinking, "If Travis asks to come get you, don't let him, your kids might end up orphans."
No shit, that's how I think. Puts me in a pretty bad mood all of the time, but, guess it was the way I was raised, always, always expect the worst, then when it's all OK, take it easy.
I see Mikey go, Roach was ahead of him,so I put the car into reverse. Slowly, but no slipping, not so bad...not until I get to the stop sign at the end of the parking lot. I look north to see if the hill was clear,I had decided that if there was anyone on it, I would wait to go, that way I would only hurt myself if I slid around on it. But no! There was a car off in the ditch, couldn't tell if it was Mikey, or the local taxi, but it had caused a semi full of Hormel boxed meat to start to slide backwards down the hill sideways blocking the road. So, there I sat,and sat watching the idiots down the hill from me pulling out trying to get around the semi and get stuck, and the idiots on the other side of the semi do the same thing.
About that time Shawn pulls up beside me, we are talking about making it up that big hill when the mess cleared up, then I see a little pick-up trying to make it around the semi, so I hit my wipers to clear the windshield and whoosh! Off goes my windshield wiper! Divers side!
"WTF?"
Shawn," What the hell was that?" he was parked beside me.
"My freakin windshield wiper! What the hell?"
So, I open the door to get out and pick the stupid thing up,and about fall on my ass but caught myself on my door,Shawn starts to get out and was like, whoops, "Do ya think you can get that yourself?"
Where the hells the chivalry? Helping a lady in distress? Some big strong man... I forgive him
:-(
"Nah, I got it, stupid F*&^%^& piece of &*!%. Guess that means I ain't going anywhere, the clip is broken!"
I truly think God was telling me to not chance it Fool Woman driver! So I say, "Gonna go park and call Travis I guess, that'll make him happy to get out and play in this shit."
Southern Iowa, boys never grow out of wanting to use four-wheel drive.
I use my broken windshield wiper,by hand to swipe my windshield once more, back up,turn arownd and drive back to my parking space.
"Hey Travis, still wanna come get me?"
"Why?" He asks.
"Well, my F'n wipe flew off."
"What? How in the hell....."
Moving on, I call my mom's house, about 3 times before my little sister finally wakes up and says she'll unlock the door to let Gatty in. I refused to let Travis bring the baby in this crap. SO, she was taken care of, but I hear over the radio there had been a bad Semi/car accident 5 miles south of Osceola, were I was, and had closed both north and south bound lanes of traffic. SO much for no one being on the interstate at 6:30 a.m . .
Travis came Hwy 69, you locals know what I am talking about.
So here he comes, my hubby, in his 3/4 ton Dodge.
Mechelle, parked beside me waiting for her X,who also works at the same place as we do,was on his way to work up the interstate with thier threee kids, but was stopped do to the accident, was the one who saw him first.
"Here's Travis now, he made good time."
Huh, who knows how much crap he pulled to get there,he lives for days like that.
"Be carefull, call me when you get home"
Mechelle was nodding her head and talking to her X gettin the update on the interstate situation.
Long,LONG story short, we made it.Safe and sound, some people didn't however. Mechelle found a video on line that was taken well after the cars were allowed to move again on the I-35, as off this morning at 11:05 a.m. the truck on the left hand side was still on the ditch. I know, because that's when Travis took me to get my car!
Sorry, don't know how to link it, but this will get you there.

Anyone who loves candles must visit this site!
http://candlesbylori.ca/
My mother in law gave me a fruit pie candle over Thanksgiving and it is the best thing I have ever smelled,...and not eaten!
This Lori lady is some how related to my father in law who hails from O Canada. I was a bit concerned with the shipping of the candles but Lori wrote me and let me know she was only 5 minutes away from downtown Detroit,so shipping wouldn't be too bad. Good deal I say.

Where does she get this stuff?
This evening while I was sitting at the computer(go figgy) , my hubby came sneaking in the room obviously trying not to laugh...
I say "What's up?"
Hubby says " Gatlynn and Kendall are playing Guess which hand! Hee hee hee hee hee"
I'm like " Yeah, I can hear that, why's that so funny?"
Hubby goes " Cuz Gat's facing Kendall, not thinking I can see her hands, so as Kendall guesses which hand the toy is in, Gatlynn moves it to the other!"
Hmm, I start to worry a bit because she is only THREE. I go in and ask to play.
Gatlynn says "Sure, guess what hand it's in!" So sweet and cute with those twelve inch eye lashes.
She suddenly looks up and around me because Daddy has walked in. I have never seen her face look like this...the look of.."Oh crap,I think Daddy might know that I'm up to something, and , I really don't want to play this game anymore."
But she lets me guess and I ask her why she was looking at her Daddy like that...
She hands me the toy and says, "Your turn Mama, but keep it in one hand at a time."
Uh huh, she doesn't get that crap from me, so WHERE does she get it?
I'll be nice and keep my opinions to myslef, for now!

Just thinking
Driving down the interstate yesterday and the subject of smoking and cooking Thanksgiving dinner at the same time came up. How the subject came up doesn't matter, what matters was the first picture that came into my head and my hubby's at the same time; Peg Bundy mixing a salad and loosing her ashes in it. NASTY. We laughed about it at first, then, I then started wondering about the people I know who smoke and cook at the same time. Have they ever lost ashes in the food? If they had, did they throw the batch of whatever it was they were making away and start fresh? Or instead just keep right on mixing like Peg Bundy?

Good read, I promise! WWdN:In Exile

Ok,
So , two or so weeks ago, I happened to watch "Toy Soldiers" starring Wil Wheaton and a few other guys...
Any who, I have always teased my hubby that he looked allot like Mr. Wheaton, and after an afternoon of watching "Toy Soldiers", I was sure of it.
So I started in teasing him again, and even though I could tell he was getting sick of it, I kept on. I started looking up pictures of Wil and putting them side by side with ones of Travis, from like 10 years old til now. Except for the fact, my hubby keeps facial hair (only to hide his baby face) he and Wil are quite similar, I am happy to say. ;-) I must explain that ever since "Stand by Me" I have loved that brown eyed boy. I was like 9 or so when I first saw it. Thank you to my big sister Patty for letting me watch it so many years ago. Blah Blah Blah... Note I posted him with a gun...Oh so tough
About three days later, while I was taking a shower,I started to feel bad as I yelled for... "Wil, come and wash my back" , Hubby came and washed my back as I requested, but took every layer of skin off,so I have not a freckle left. Guess that's not so bad.

Now, to the point, while obsessing on trying to find comparison pictures of Wil and Travis, I found a blog!!! I hope I'm not the last to know about it. Turns out Wil Wheaton has all sorts of stuff to write about and I've been missing out. http://www.wilwheaton.typepad.com/ NO more, crush is back on full time! I don't think I should feel guilty about crushing on Wil Wheaton, after all, my Hubby resembles him!

Comparison

I was just on my friends blog ( http://jjmeyer.blogspot.com/ Jenelle and Jason) and he had put comparisons of some candidates and cartoon characters... He didn't have one of Hillary so I went looking.
I am not for all of what Hillary claims to be ,but she is obviously the woman in charge of the Clinton's life, as Rosie is the Jetson's!

Windmills
My friends hubby posted a blog about his drive form Iowa to Wisconsin. He wrote quite nicely and made me think about my dad.
He has been gone since 1993.Before he died he had carved me a windmill out of walnut.I was always saying..."I spy a windmill" and in Iowa, that is all the time. So, while I was upstairs in my room, my dad would be carving this windmill in secret because he wanted to give it to me for Christmas. All need to realize that "secret" in my family is the hardest word in the dictionary, next to "sorry"!
Well, it was the best surprise I have ever had at Christmas. Not one has beat it yet, my hubby has came the closest, with a set of horseshoe earrings, necklace, and bracelet to match. ;-)
I keep that windmill in a glass/oak case that was made for me by an "x boyfriend" solely for the windmill.
Nice memories,I am so glad I visited their blog...Along with nice little stories, they post recipes and all sorts of goodies about anything at all,

My latest Birthday cake
Sorry,update on LYR 2007
Ok,
So,Kendall didn't make the 8 second mark this year ,but he came so close! His last ride was great! I was so proud of him.The announcer even had time to say..'THIS BOY DREW A JUMPER!" Anyway,I think he is finally figuring out that he has to do a lot more than just set up there and think he's cool! He worked hard this season, too bad they didn't have a prize for most improved! OF course,I forgot my camera....

Youth Rodeo season 2007 cont.
Well,
Sunday the 23rd proved to be a banner day for Kendall with his steer riding. I could actually see improvement! He looked to be trying to balance and stay on instead of picking a place to land!
His ride lasted about 3 seconds,a bit more maybe, and guess what? MOM FORGOT HER CAMERA! I could have had a dozen shots of him and forgot the darn camera on the desk.We were all bummed....maybe not me,because I didn't have to worry about what I took a picture of,and I got to see Kendall not look at him through a view finder.
He has one more ride this season and I am hopping he at least makes some points.Only two boys have even placed, and only one time each meaning ONE solid ride and Kendall has hope of placing. He will ride the 6th for the Leon Rodeo, but,as he says,"Anyone can ride there." Still, he needs the experience!
Sunday the 23rd proved to be a banner day for Kendall with his steer riding. I could actually see improvement! He looked to be trying to balance and stay on instead of picking a place to land!

Start of Youth Rodeo season 2007

Well,Kendall's first ride of the season was Sunday the 10th.
As usual,I was a wreck, but I managed to get a great action shot of him.So, Kendall didn't get his 8 second ride, but Mommy got a good picture for the first time!
I told him,he'd better start staying on a bit longer.I don't get to see anything if I have to pay attention to the darn camera!
P.s. Can you see where Kendall's eye's are???That is EXACTLY where he landed. Will he ever learn not to pick a spot to land until AFTER the buzzer???

Long Live the Dodge...in someone else's driveway!
The Dodge has been totaled! I am sad and happy all at once. One more bad thing is Travis has decided to WAIT to get another truck.I guess it is best, pay down our other stuff and then get another new one.Used will have to do.Any how,at 20$ a gallon for gas, ain't nobody gonna want a new truck.Should be able to buy one dirt cheep........YEAH RIGHT!
Adios mi amigo,it was fun while it lasted...Good grief,it's like I just lost my best friend.I gotta get over it!

A recipe!
I had to put a recipe on here,"Jenelle" does it everyday!
I like this one,and was reminded of it because of "Paula's Party" on the Food Network.I usually only care about desserts, but good crispy fish,Mmm Mmm Good!
Beer Battered Fish and Chips Recipe
courtesy Paula Deen
4 large baking potatoes, cut into French fry strips
Beer Batter:
1 (12-ounce) bottle beer
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon House Seasoning, recipe follows
1 1/2 pounds cod fillets, skinned with bones removed, and fish cut diagonally into 1-inch-wide strips (5 to 6-inches long)
In a Dutch oven, heat oil to 375 degrees F.
Fry potatoes until golden brown, roughly 10 minutes removing with a slotted spoon or spider. Hold in low oven to keep warm while cooking the fish.
Preheat oven to 225 degrees F,
Batter:
In a large bowl, pour in 1 bottle of beer. Sift 1 1/2 cups flour into the bowl, whisking in gently until just combined, stir in House Seasoning. Pat fish dry and season on both sides with salt and pepper and dredge in 1/2 cup of remaining flour. Coat pieces of fish in beer batter and slide into oil as coated. Fry fish, turning over frequently, until deep golden and cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined baking sheet and keep warm in oven. Fry remaining fish in batches, returning oil to 375 degrees F between batches.
Serve fish with French fries.
House Seasoning:
1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder
Paula claims her House seasoning is good for 6mo's if stored in an airtight container.
I love this batter because it is so crunchy,my problem is making sure I have the oil hot enough to make it stick.I have no patience when I am hungry!

No more Tilley
My weekend was full of joy and heartache.I sold Tilley to a girl out of Iowa City.I had to do it because I couldn't get her to STOP having accidents in my kitchen.I have never scrubbed my floor as much in my entire life as I did with Tilley around.Every half hour wasn't enough for her I guess.I didn't have the patience and I am ashamed about that. The girl who has her now seems very optimistic...GOOD LUCK.Tilley is an adorable animal and very loving, just leaks allot!I was honest about the reason for the sale.So they knew she would be a tough one to break.
So,I have been sad since Saturday, and I even shed a tear,or two, last night before I went to sleep.I know that Tilley is in a good home,I just wish I didn't get attached to her.Guess it is my fault for not doing more research on the breed.I'll know better if I ever attempt a inside pet again.
